Combi Boiler Information – Combi Boiler Problems

A Combination Boiler is a compact and highly efficient unit (most of which can be wall hung in the kitchen) giving all the heating and hot water you need, with significant savings on running and installation costs. They are becoming increasingly popular and now account for over 50% of all domestic boilers installed every year in Great Britain.

A Combi has many advantages.

A Combination Boiler is perfect for smaller homes or homes where you wish to renovate the loft into another room. A Combi does not require a tank in the loft because unlike a conventional heating and hot water system, a combi boiler system does not store domestic hot water. Instead a combination boiler heats water directly from the cold mains as you use it. Without the need for a tank, you eliminate the risk of freezing and flooding. There is also no water cylinder in the airing cupboard or any of the connecting pipework. So you can not only save a great deal of space in your home, but also reduce hot water costs. Hot water costs can account for up to 60% of a typical domestic fuel bill.

A combi also supplies hot water at mains pressure, giving you exhilarating power showering without the need for a pump.

A condensing combi boiler is more efficient due to its ability to extract more heat from the flue gases normally lost to the environment through the flue system.

Energy Saving Advice: Seal cracks in your basement walls and floor to keep heat in and cold air out.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

New Government regulations (Part L) require that from the 1st of April 2005 all new boiler installations must be of the 'high efficiency' condensing type. There are very few exceptions to this law.
