Combi Boiler Information – Combi Boiler ManualA combination boiler (or combi) is a compact and highly efficient unit giving all the heating and hot water you need, with significant savings on running and installation costs. Combination Boilers have become a great deal more popular for homeowners and now account for more than 50% of domestic boilers fitted in the UK every year. A conventional heating and hot water system stores domestic hot water normally in a water cistern or tank in the loft of a house. A combi does not require a tank as it does not store water instead it heats water directly from the cold mains when you use it. By installing a combi boiler you eliminate the need for a hot water cylinder, a tank in the loft (and so less risk of freezing and flooding), and the connecting pipe work. Combi Boilers are very practical for smaller dwellings or homes that have very little loft space such as bungalows, apartments and lofts. By installing a Combination boiler you not only save space, but also reduce hot water costs - which can account for up to 60% of a typical domestic fuel bill. There is no need for a pump to have strong water pressure for your shower. A combination boiler will also supply hot water at mains pressure. A condensing combination boiler is more efficient due to its ability to extract more heat from the flue gases normally lost to the environment through the flue system. Energy Saving Advice: Lighting accounts for 15% of your electricity bill. Do not light rooms that are not in use and install Compact Fluorescent Lamps (or CFLs). Their initial cost may be high, however, they use a quarter of the power of traditional light bulbs. IMPORTANT NOTICE New Government regulations (Part L) require that from the 1st of April 2005 all new boiler installations must be of the 'high efficiency' condensing type. There are very few exceptions to this law.
