Combi Boiler Information – Boiler Combination Guide ProblemThe combination boiler is a boiler that can save a great deal of space and money and is becoming increasingly popular in UK homes. Combination Boilers now account for well over half of all the new domestic boilers fitted in Britain every year. The main difference between a combination boiler and any other type of boiler is that a combination boiler eliminates the need to store hot water. This means that it is unnecessary for a hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard. This type of boiler is called a combination boiler because it is both a high-efficiency water heater and central heating boiler combined. It is housed within one compact unit which is usually wall mounted in the kitchen or utility room and sometimes in the airing cupboard. Because there is no hot water storage cylinder, cold water storage cistern or other familiar components of a regular traditional heating system you can save a great deal of space. This is particularly useful for dwellings such as bungalows, apartments and flats that may no have that much loft space. The further benefits of this are a significant saving on hot water costs and also that hot water is delivered through your taps or shower at mains pressure. Another combi benefit is that it can generally save you money on installation time and costs. This is because there are no tanks in the roof space which means less pipe work and a shorter installation time. A condensing combi boiler is more efficient due to its ability to extract more heat from the flue gases normally lost to the environment through the flue system. IMPORTANT NOTICE New Government regulations (Part L) require that from the 1st of April 2005 all new boiler installations must be of the 'high efficiency' condensing type. There are very few exceptions to this law.
