A combi (or combination boiler) is a compact and highly efficient unit giving all the heating and hot water you need, with significant savings on running and installation costs. Combis are easy to install because they eliminate the need for both a water cistern in the loft (so no risk of freezing or flooding) and a hot water cylinder in an airing cupboard. The pump is also placed within the boiler casing which makes a combi easier to install but more difficult to maintain.

Combis are becoming increasingly popular in Britain with them now accounting for half of all new domestic boilers installed in Britain every year.

A Combi can save a great deal of space around your home and is therefore suitable for smaller homes and for homeowners who wish to renovate the loft of their home into another room. Unlike a traditional heating and hot water system, a combination boiler system does not store domestic hot water. It also saves money by only heating water as you use it.

A combination boiler also supplies hot water at mains pressure, giving you exhilarating power showering without the need for a pump. A Combination boiler is also very useful for homes a large number of people in the household. A traditional system would be prone to periods of running out of hot water as it had to refill the tank if there was a high demand.

A condensing combi boiler is more competent due to its capacity to extract more heat from the flue gases usually lost to the environment through the flue system.

New Government regulations (Part L) require that from the 1st of April 2005 all new boiler installations must be of the 'high efficiency' condensing type. There are very few exceptions to this law.
